Recalling the contributions of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman to agricultural development, the President said various initiatives, including canal excavation programmes and the expansion of high-yielding rice varieties, have brought changes to the country's agriculture sector. The President made these remarks during an event attended by senior agriculture officials including the Director General of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute.
The President's call comes at a crucial time for farmers across Bangladesh, including those in Atrai Upazila and Naogaon District, who are currently managing Aman rice cultivation and preparing for the upcoming Boro season. Agriculture remains the backbone of Bangladesh's economy, with the majority of the rural population dependent on farming for their livelihood.
The emphasis on better preservation and processing technologies, along with increased farmer incentives, is expected to benefit local farmers who often face challenges in storing and marketing their produce. Improved facilities for agricultural researchers could also lead to new crop varieties and farming techniques better suited to local conditions in northern Bangladesh.
