British Council Chief Executive Scott McDonald visited Rajshahi and Dhaka from 29 September to 1 October 2026 to strengthen UK-Bangladesh ties in education, English language learning, and youth opportunities.

British Council Chief Executive Scott McDonald completed a three-day visit to Bangladesh from 29 September to 1 October 2026 to strengthen ties between the UK and Bangladesh through education, English language learning, arts and culture, and opportunities for young people.

During his visit, McDonald met with government representatives, education leaders, teachers, students, young people and cultural partners in both Dhaka and Rajshahi. The visit underscores the British Council's continued commitment to supporting educational development and cultural exchange in Bangladesh.

McDonald highlighted Bangladesh's potential, noting the country's enormous ambition and dynamic young population. The British Council works to create international opportunities for people in Bangladesh and to build trust between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom.

The visit to Rajshahi is particularly significant for students and young people in northern Bangladesh, including Naogaon district, as it may lead to expanded access to English language programs, educational scholarships, and cultural exchange opportunities with the UK.
