State Minister Dr Shaikh Faridul Islam visited Naogaon district on Wednesday to observe Swiss-supported climate programmes addressing water scarcity and local priorities.
State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr Shaikh Faridul Islam visited Naogaon district on Wednesday to review climate adaptation activities under the Switzerland-supported GO4IMPact programme. During the visit, the minister joined local communities and authorities to observe how locally identified priorities are being translated into practical action.
The GO4IMPact programme focuses on helping Naogaon communities tackle water scarcity and build climate resilience. Key activities include re-excavation of ponds for water conservation and tree planting initiatives. The programme also works to incorporate priorities identified by communities into local government planning processes.
Naogaon district in northwest Bangladesh faces growing challenges related to water scarcity and drought, making climate adaptation efforts particularly important for local residents. The GO4IMPact initiative is implemented by WaterAid and Swisscontact in partnership with local organisations, with funding from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
The programme operates in Dhamoirhat and Niamatpur sub-districts of Naogaon, working to strengthen local government institutions and improve climate-resilient public service delivery in water and solid waste management sectors. Switzerland has committed to supporting locally led adaptation efforts to empower communities and local institutions across Bangladesh.
