The FY 2026-27 budget allocates Tk 69,409 crore for health and Tk 1,36,606 crore for education, marking the highest-ever shares of GDP for both sectors.

The Government of Bangladesh has allocated record-high budgets for health and education sectors in the fiscal year 2026-27, signaling a strong commitment to improving essential services for citizens across the country.

The health sector received Tk 69,409 crore, representing a 50 percent increase from the previous year's original budget and a 124 percent jump from the revised budget. The education sector was allocated Tk 1,36,606 crore, also marking the highest share of GDP for the sector in the nation's history.

The budget emphasizes technical and vocational education, technology-enabled learning, third language instruction, and free education for girls up to the undergraduate level. It also includes support for disadvantaged students and plans to connect skilled Bangladeshi professionals abroad with local education and research institutions.

However, experts caution that effective implementation will be crucial, noting that the health ministry has historically struggled to fully utilize its allocated funds. Past data shows the Medical Education and Family Welfare Division spent only 2.34 percent of its development budget allocation, while the Health Services Division used just 14.9 percent, well below the national average.
