BMD forecasts near-normal rainfall but above-normal temperatures with possible mild heatwaves and short-term flooding in northern regions during August 2026.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast near-normal rainfall for August 2026 alongside above-normal day and night temperatures across the country. After a rain-soaked July that saw 35.6 percent higher-than-normal rainfall, residents should prepare for hotter conditions this month.
The BMD warned that one or two isolated mild to moderate heatwaves may sweep across parts of Bangladesh during August. Day and night temperatures are both expected to remain above normal monthly averages. The committee predicted that one to two monsoon low-pressure systems may form over the Bay of Bengal during the month.
Water levels in the country's major river systems are likely to rise during August. Owing to heavy seasonal rainfall, short-term flood situations may develop in the northern, northeastern and southeastern regions of Bangladesh. Farmers and residents in low-lying areas are advised to stay alert to updated forecasts.
Bangladesh received an average of 666mm of rainfall in July 2026, well above the normal monthly average of 457mm, due to active monsoon winds and low-pressure systems. The BMD's three-month outlook for August to October 2026 forecasts below-normal rainfall over that period.
