Bangladesh Meteorological Department forecasts near-normal rainfall for August with above-normal temperatures, isolated heatwaves, and possible regional flooding.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has released its August 2026 weather forecast, predicting near-normal rainfall across the country alongside above-normal day and night temperatures. The forecast also warns of isolated mild-to-moderate heatwaves and the possibility of short-term flooding in several regions.
July 2026 saw significantly higher-than-normal rainfall, with Bangladesh recording 666mm of rain compared to the normal monthly average of 457mm—a 35.6 percent increase. The country experienced an average of 25 rainy days during July, above the normal 21 days, due to active monsoon winds and low-pressure systems.
Looking ahead to the August-October period, the BMD forecasts below-normal rainfall overall. During these three months, the Bay of Bengal may witness four to six low-pressure systems, of which two to three could intensify into depressions. Thunderstorms are expected on 10 to 15 days, while isolated heatwaves may occur four to six times.
Daytime and night-time temperatures are expected to remain generally above normal throughout the late monsoon period. Residents, particularly those in low-lying and flood-prone areas, are advised to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions during heavy rain and thunderstorms.
