Government begins buying Boro paddy from farmers at Tk 36/kg in Naogaon to ensure fair prices and strengthen food security.
The government officially launched its direct paddy-rice procurement program for the current Boro season in Naogaon district in May 2026. The initiative was inaugurated at Badalgachi Upazila Food Warehouse to help ensure fair prices for farmers across the district.
Under this program, the government is purchasing paddy directly from farmers at Tk 36 per kilogram. Officials announced that a total of 1,229 metric tons of paddy will be procured from farmers in Badalgachi upazila alone during this season.
Naogaon is one of Bangladesh's major rice-producing districts, with approximately 192,500 hectares brought under Boro cultivation across its 11 upazilas this season. The district plays a crucial role in national food security, contributing significantly to Bangladesh's rice production alongside other northern districts like Rajshahi, Natore, Bogra, and Joypurhat.
Local officials emphasized that the government's direct procurement initiative aims to protect farmers from price volatility and strengthen the country's food security. The program provides farmers with a guaranteed price for their harvest, helping them recover production costs and maintain their livelihoods.
