Continuous heavy rainfall has caused prices of vegetables, rice, eggs, fish and poultry to rise in markets nationwide, adding to household expenses.

Continuous monsoon rainfall and adverse weather conditions have triggered a new round of price increases for essential food items across Bangladesh markets this week. Vegetables, fish, poultry, eggs, and rice have all become more expensive, putting additional financial pressure on low- and middle-income families.

Market visits to major trading centers in Dhaka revealed that nearly all essential food items are selling at higher prices compared to a week earlier. The persistent rain has disrupted supply chains and affected the availability of fresh produce, leading traders to increase prices.

The price increases come as Bangladesh continues to face challenges with food inflation. Rice, the country's staple food, has seen sustained high prices over recent months due to increased production costs, inflation, and supply chain inefficiencies. The current rainfall is compounding these existing pressures on household budgets.

The monsoon season, which began in early July, has also caused severe flooding in southeastern districts including Chattogram and Cox's Bazar, affecting over one million people. While the worst flooding has been concentrated in those regions, the nationwide impact on food prices is being felt in markets across all divisions, including Rajshahi.
