Naogaon University formally launched its academic activities on Friday, July 18, 2026, with a colorful ceremony marking the beginning of the institution's educational journey. Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon inaugurated the academic activities by unveiling the university's name plaque at around 11:30 am at its temporary campus in the Barunkandi Circle area of Naogaon town.
The ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials including State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, Education Secretary Abdul Khaleque, and University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed. Also present were UGC Member Prof Dr. Abdullah Al Mamun, Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Professor Dr. Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, and Vice-Chancellor of Naogaon University Prof Dr. Mohammad Hasanat Ali.
Lawmakers from Naogaon's six parliamentary constituencies, including Atrai Upazila, attended the inauguration along with the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police. The establishment of Naogaon University represents a significant milestone for higher education accessibility in the district, providing local students with opportunities to pursue university education closer to home.
Naogaon District, known as the bread basket of Bangladesh with about 80% of land under cultivation, is home to approximately 2.8 million people across 11 upazilas including Atrai. The new university is expected to serve students from across the district and neighboring areas, reducing the need for families to send their children to distant cities for higher education.
