The Hindu community's major Rath Yatra festival began in Naogaon on July 16 with colorful processions and traditional celebrations.

A nine-day Rath Yatra festival, one of the major religious celebrations of the Hindu community, began in Naogaon district on July 16, 2026, with colorful festivities. The procession was inaugurated at 10am under the auspices of the Sri Sri Bura Kali Mata Temple Committee.

Accompanied by traditional drums, conch shells and ululation, the idols of Lord Jagannath, Balaram and Subhadra were taken in a ceremonial chariot procession. The procession started from the Old Goruhati area of Naogaon town and concluded at the Sri Sri Bura Kali Mata Temple.

Thousands of devotees, along with local dignitaries and community leaders, were present during the inauguration. Before the procession, Harinam Sankirtan and recitations from the Bhagavad Gita were held, with prayers for world peace and the well-being of humanity.

The Rath Yatra is an ancient Hindu festival that celebrates Lord Jagannath's annual journey. The nine-day celebration in Naogaon district brings together the Hindu community from across the region, including residents of Atrai and other upazilas, in a display of religious devotion and cultural heritage.
