Heavy monsoon rains have caused deadly floods across seven southeastern districts, killing 44 people and stranding over a million residents as authorities rush relief efforts.

Torrential monsoon rains have triggered severe flooding and landslides across southeastern Bangladesh, claiming at least 44 lives and leaving over one million people stranded, according to the disaster management ministry. The floods have disrupted daily life across seven districts including Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Moulvibazar and Habiganj.

The disaster has isolated thousands of families, with 267,918 households affected as of Saturday, July 11. Power outages, damaged roads and broken communication links have significantly hampered rescue and relief operations. Many residents have been unable to cook for days as floodwaters submerged their homes, while others struggle with thick layers of mud covering kitchens and living spaces.

Bangladesh is among the world's most disaster-prone countries, with seasonal monsoon rains regularly causing floods, river erosion and landslides. Scientists warn that climate change is making extreme rainfall more frequent and intense, increasing the scale and severity of such disasters. Authorities continue to race against time to deliver aid to the devastated communities.

While this flooding currently affects southeastern districts, the monsoon season poses risks nationwide. Residents across Bangladesh, including those in Rajshahi Division and Naogaon District, are advised to remain vigilant during heavy rains and follow local authorities' guidance on flood preparedness and safety measures.
